Knoxville, Tenn. – A truck driver was rescued after being trapped in his vehicle following a crash in the Halls area early Monday morning. The incident occurred just before 6:00 a.m. at the intersection of Maynardville Highway and East Emory Road in North Knox County.
According to officials with the Rural Metro Fire Department, the collision involved a box truck that struck the rear end of a tractor-trailer. Upon arrival, fire crews found the driver of the box truck heavily entrapped in the vehicle, prompting a swift and coordinated rescue effort.
Captain Jeff Bagwell with Rural Metro Fire reported that multiple crews worked for approximately 45 minutes to extricate the driver. After being freed from the wreckage, the driver was transported to a nearby trauma center with injuries that were initially described as non-life-threatening.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash, and further investigation is ongoing. However, the swift response of emergency personnel ensured the driver received prompt medical care.
This incident highlights the dangers of early-morning travel, as well as the critical role of first responders in managing complex rescues. While details about the extent of the driver’s injuries remain limited, officials have confirmed that no other individuals were involved in the crash.
