Loudon County, Tenn. — Authorities are intensifying their search efforts for two teenagers who went missing after a police pursuit early Wednesday morning. The incident unfolded at around 4 a.m. when a stolen vehicle was spotted on I-75, prompting a high-speed chase involving the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Sweetwater Police Department.
According to Corporal Cody Bengel with the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit was called off after a brief chase. The vehicle was later found abandoned near the Tennessee River Bridge on I-75 North. However, the suspects had already fled the scene by the time officers arrived.
A multi-agency search quickly ensued, involving K-9 units, drones, and personnel from various local and state agencies. Search teams scoured the area surrounding the bridge and the nearby woods, but after hours of searching, the area was cleared without locating the suspects.
The situation took a new turn around 7:30 a.m. when Loudon County 911 began receiving multiple reports of vehicle break-ins from residents in the Lake Drive community. As deputies responded to the area, they were flagged down by residents who reported seeing a teenage boy on a neighbor’s porch. Deputies quickly apprehended the individual, who was questioned about his involvement in the incident.
During questioning, the teen revealed that he and two others had jumped into the Tennessee River from the bridge during the pursuit. As of Wednesday evening, authorities had yet to provide any updates on the search for the two remaining missing teens.
The search for the teens continues with the assistance of several agencies, including the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, the Loudon Fire Department, the Tellico Village Fire Department, Priority Ambulance Service, and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
