Anderson County, Tenn. — A head-on crash Sunday evening in Anderson County left one man dead, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP).

The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. on Brushy Valley Road, near Pumpkin Hollow Road. A Ford Escape, driven by 60-year-old Salvatore Varsalona, was traveling south when it crossed the double yellow line, colliding with a Ford F-250 heading north. The impact caused the Ford Escape to come to a stop in the middle of the roadway.

Tragically, Varsalona, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford F-250 was uninjured.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but preliminary reports indicate that Varsalona’s failure to maintain his lane contributed to the fatal collision.

Authorities have not released any further details about the crash at this time. The Tennessee Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
