Maryville, TN – The City of Maryville recognized municipal employees working outdoors during a stretch of extreme summer heat and thanked two local business owners for their generosity toward road construction crews.
City officials highlighted the crew working on the Carpenters Grade Road project, noting that workers have continued making progress despite several days of high temperatures across East Tennessee.
The city also recognized Ashish (Alex) Patel and Sheetal Patel, owners of a nearby gas station, for welcoming construction workers inside their business to cool off, hydrate and take breaks from the heat throughout the project.
When asked about helping the crews, Sheetal Patel said, “For me, it’s nothing. This is my community. They are all family.”
City officials said the Patels’ support reflects the strong sense of community in Maryville and praised the kindness shown to employees working in challenging conditions.
The city also encouraged motorists who pass outdoor work zones to show appreciation for workers with a wave or a simple “thank you,” noting that small gestures can make a meaningful difference.
As hot weather continues, officials reminded residents to take precautions against heat-related illness by staying hydrated, taking breaks in cool areas, wearing light, loose-fitting clothing, applying sunscreen and recognizing the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
The City of Maryville concluded by thanking all city employees who work outdoors to maintain and improve public infrastructure, as well as community members who support them during periods of extreme heat.
