Maryville, TN — A deadly crash on Chapman Highway near Maples Road on Monday afternoon left one person dead, according to the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD).
The incident occurred shortly before 3:00 p.m. when emergency responders were called to the scene. Initial reports from the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) mistakenly classified the crash as a “disabled vehicle,” but it was later confirmed to be a collision.
Authorities said the driver of the vehicle, whose identity has not yet been released, was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the driver was later pronounced dead.
In the wake of the crash, southbound lanes of Chapman Highway were closed for an extended period, leading to significant traffic delays as investigators worked to clear the scene. The closure was lifted several hours later, but motorists were urged to find alternate routes during the investigation.
