KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Knoxville woman was charged Friday, May 23, after firing a handgun at a man who allegedly scammed her by posing as an Xfinity salesman, according to a police report obtained by WVLT News.
Lucinda Cameron-Cox told authorities that a man identified only as Mark came to her home and convinced her to change her service, ultimately stealing $300 from her. After discovering the fraud, Cameron-Cox visited an Xfinity store where she confirmed the man’s deception.
According to the police report, Cameron-Cox and an accomplice contacted Mark under the pretense of having him install equipment they were supposed to receive from the Xfinity store. When Mark returned to the residence, they attempted to detain him against his will.
Mark was able to leave the home, but Cameron-Cox followed him outside and discharged a Taurus .38 Special handgun in his direction. No injuries were reported.
Cameron-Cox was subsequently charged with reckless endangerment. During questioning, she reportedly expressed regret, stating she wished she had shot him, according to the report.
The investigation remains ongoing.
