Knoxville, TN – The Knoxville Police Department (KPD) is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Thursday morning at North Hills Apartments. The incident took place around 3:40 a.m. in the 2900 block of Washington Pike when officers responded to a call reporting a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle that had crashed into a fence. The driver, later identified as 38-year-old Ernest Glenn, had sustained at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, a 45-year-old man, was located at the nearby apartment complex with serious injuries. He was quickly transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment.

Following the shooting, KPD’s investigation led to the identification of 21-year-old Kevin Martinez as the suspect. Martinez was taken into custody on Sunday in Nashville, just as he was attempting to board a Greyhound bus. He has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault.

According to KPD Communications Manager Scott Erland, investigators believe the shooting was targeted and occurred on Washington Pike. One of the victims is believed to have fled the scene and sought help at the apartment complex.

Martinez is expected to be extradited back to Knoxville in the coming days to face charges. The investigation is being led by KPD’s homicide unit, and authorities continue to work on determining the full circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting.
