MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Blount County Schools (BCS) has announced the appointment of Justin Ridge as the district’s new director of schools, effective immediately. Ridge will succeed Dr. Alisa Teffeteller, who had been serving as interim director since February.
Ridge brings a wealth of experience to the position, having worked in various roles within the district. He most recently oversaw homebound, homeschool, and alternative programs, demonstrating a broad understanding of the diverse needs of students. Additionally, he is the founder and principal of Samuel Everett School of Innovation, further showcasing his leadership and commitment to educational excellence.
Previously, Ridge held the positions of assistant principal and athletic director at William Blount High School, and he began his teaching career at Greenback. His long-standing association with the district, combined with his deep personal connection to BCS, makes his new role especially significant.
“As a product of the school system, a parent of two BCS students, and the spouse of a school psychologist in the district, this role is incredibly meaningful to me,” Ridge said in a statement. “Blount County Schools is part of who I am, and I am committed to leading with transparency, purpose, and a relentless focus on student success.”
The search for a new director began in January following the resignation of David Murrell, who had served as director for 18 years. During the interim period, Jake Jones and Dr. Teffeteller assumed leadership roles within the district.
Ridge’s appointment marks the end of an extensive search, and district officials are optimistic about his leadership. His dedication to the district’s mission, coupled with his firsthand knowledge of the community and educational landscape, positions him well to guide Blount County Schools into the future.
