Pigeon Forge Braces for Heavy Traffic During Spring Rod Run Weekend

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. — The annual Spring Rod Run event kicks off this weekend, and the Pigeon Forge Police Department (PFPD) is warning locals and visitors alike to expect significant traffic congestion in and around the LeConte Center.

Starting Thursday, April 10, and continuing through the weekend, the Spring Rod Run will attract thousands of car enthusiasts to the area, which is expected to cause heavy traffic on roads, sidewalks, and parking lots. The event, which features classic cars, custom vehicles, and automotive vendors, is set to draw crowds from near and far, with the busiest traffic times anticipated during peak event hours.

While the show will take place at the LeConte Center, the impact of the traffic will spill over onto nearby streets, including primary, secondary, and tertiary roads. With such a large influx of people, PFPD is urging everyone to be patient and cautious while navigating the area.

“To help with the flow of traffic, we’re asking people to plan ahead and be mindful of their surroundings,” said a PFPD spokesperson. “Whether you’re driving or walking, it’s important to stay alert and follow basic safety tips to ensure everyone can enjoy the event safely.”

The police department has offered several helpful tips for both pedestrians and drivers during the busy weekend:

  • Do not rush: With heavy traffic expected, drivers should avoid rushing and instead remain patient.

  • Be aware of pedestrians: Pedestrians are expected to be out in large numbers, so drivers should watch carefully for people crossing streets and walking in parking lots.

  • Pedestrian safety: Those on foot are also reminded to be vigilant and aware of traffic around them.

  • Stay in the right lane: Drivers moving at slower speeds are advised to stay in the right lane to allow faster-moving vehicles to pass.

  • Avoid blocking intersections: Drivers trying to change lanes should wait until they are away from intersections, as stopping in the middle of an intersection can lead to further congestion and delays.

  • Park responsibly: To avoid obstructing traffic, motorists should park only in designated, lined spaces.

The Spring Rod Run is the first of two major automotive events held in Pigeon Forge each year. The Fall Rod Run, scheduled for September, will likely bring similar challenges in terms of traffic and crowds.

As the weekend approaches, authorities are urging everyone to plan accordingly, remain patient, and be considerate of others to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all.
