KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Two students were injured in a school bus crash in Roane County Monday morning, prompting an investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP).

According to THP, 64-year-old Paul Perrin was behind the wheel of the bus as it traveled along Ponders Gap Road just before 8 a.m. When the bus veered off the right side of the roadway, it traveled down an embankment before coming to a stop against a tree. Authorities confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

At the time of the incident, there were 21 students on board. Two of the students sustained injuries, although their current conditions have not been disclosed. The names and ages of the injured students have not been released.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. In a statement, THP indicated that charges are pending against Perrin, who may have been using his cell phone at the time of the accident. District Attorney General Russell Johnson confirmed that the charges would be related to the alleged use of a mobile phone while driving.

As the investigation unfolds, local authorities are urging the public to stay informed on any updates. The safety of students and the circumstances surrounding the crash remain top priorities for the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Roane County school district.
