Knoxville, Tenn. – Downtown Knoxville will soon see a number of changes as part of the city’s revised parking plan, which was unveiled in the fall of 2024. The update follows a comprehensive parking study conducted earlier that year and will include the installation of new meters and signage throughout the downtown area.
As of March 1, city staff will begin replacing parking signs and meters, a process expected to continue throughout the month. The most significant changes to parking will take effect on March 10. The city’s new pricing structure will see an increase in rates for both two-hour and four-hour parking zones. The two-hour parking zones will rise from $1.50 to $2.00 per hour, while the four-hour zones will increase from $0.30 to $1.00 per hour. Despite these increases, the city has emphasized that parking will remain free during evenings and on weekends.
In addition to the rate changes, the city will also reduce the ten-hour maximum parking zones to four-hour maximum zones, further promoting turnover in high-demand areas. However, all 15-minute free Stop-n-Go locations will remain in place, continuing to offer quick parking for short visits.
Another key update will be the introduction of ParkMobile, allowing for easy and convenient on-street parking payments via mobile app. While ParkMobile will handle digital payments, cash will still be accepted at all city-owned parking garages.
The new plan is expected to streamline downtown parking and support continued growth and development in Knoxville’s bustling city center. As the installation of new meters and signs progresses throughout March, drivers will need to be aware of the updated regulations to avoid fines.
