PORTLAND, Tenn. – A woman is now in police custody after being rescued from a vehicle trapped in rising floodwaters, only to be charged with driving under the influence (DUI), according to the Portland Police Department (PPD).
The PPD received a call reporting that a woman had become stranded atop her vehicle as floodwaters rapidly rose along a roadway. Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene and were able to rescue the woman, who was reportedly stuck on the roof of her car due to the dangerous conditions caused by the flooding.
However, upon further investigation, officers determined that the woman was under the influence at the time of the incident. As a result, she was charged with DUI and taken into custody.
Authorities did not release further details regarding the woman’s identity or the specific circumstances leading up to the incident. The PPD reminded the public of the importance of remaining cautious and sober, especially in hazardous weather conditions.
