OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — Authorities are investigating a deadly fire that occurred early Thursday morning on Sheridan Circle, which claimed the life of one person and left two firefighters with minor injuries.
The Oak Ridge Fire Department responded to a call shortly after 3 a.m. reporting a structure fire with a person trapped inside. Firefighters quickly arrived on scene and were able to rescue the individual from the burning building. However, despite life-saving efforts, the victim later died after being transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
In addition to the fatality, two firefighters sustained minor burns during the operation. One firefighter was also bitten by a cat while responding to the fire. Fortunately, neither of the injured firefighters required extensive medical treatment.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with both the Oak Ridge Fire Department and Oak Ridge Police Department working to determine the circumstances surrounding the blaze. Authorities have not released the name of the victim or additional details at this time.
The incident has left the community mourning, and local officials are offering support to first responders who were involved in the emergency. The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
