OAK RIDGE, TN— Two people are dead following a crash that occurred early Saturday morning near the Food City on the turnpike. The Oak Ridge Police Department is currently investigating the incident.

According to Lauren Gray, a spokesperson for the City of Oak Ridge, the crash occurred just before 9 a.m. when a vehicle traveling on South Rutgers Avenue near Manhattan Avenue left the roadway. The car then crashed into the Food City building.

The driver of the vehicle, 66-year-old Alan Mitchell, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 17-year-old Amber Mitchell, was rushed to a local hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.

The Oak Ridge Police Department has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, though no further details about the crash have been released at this time.

The identities of the individuals involved were confirmed by Gray on Sunday. Officials are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
