Maryville, TN — A 61-year-old woman has died after being critically injured in a “freak accident” at the parking lot of a Longhorn Steakhouse in Murfreesboro on December 23. According to the Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD), Cathy Pendergrass of Virginia succumbed to her injuries on December 28 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The incident occurred in the parking lot of the popular steakhouse, though details surrounding the exact circumstances of the accident remain unclear. Authorities described the event as a “freak accident” and have not released further specifics at this time.

Pendergrass, who had been visiting the area, was immediately transported to a local hospital in critical condition after the accident. Despite ongoing medical efforts, she passed away five days later due to the severity of her injuries.

Family members, friends, and the community have expressed their shock and sadness over the loss. Pendergrass’ death has left many in mourning, as she was reportedly well-liked and known for her kind nature.

The MPD is continuing to investigate the incident, but at this stage, no foul play is suspected. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the accident to come forward.

The tragic event has brought attention to the potential dangers of parking lot accidents, often overlooked in discussions of public safety. Local law enforcement reminds the public to exercise caution in busy parking areas, particularly around the holiday season when crowds and vehicles are more numerous.

Cathy Pendergrass is survived by family and friends who are grieving her untimely passing. Funeral arrangements are pending.
