Maryville, TN — A mother was killed and her child injured in a road rage shooting on Sunday afternoon in Hardin County, Tennessee. Authorities say the incident occurred just after 4 p.m. near Emmaus Way, close to U.S. Route 64 in Savannah.
The victim, 24-year-old Zoe Johnson, was shot in the area and rushed to Hardin Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The child, whose age and condition have not been disclosed, was also injured in the shooting.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), 42-year-old Clint Newton is responsible for the shooting. Authorities obtained a warrant for his arrest, and Newton was charged with second-degree murder. He is currently being held in the Hardin County Jail without bond.
The Hardin County Sheriff’s Department, along with the TBI, is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. While the exact motive remains unclear, law enforcement officials believe the incident stemmed from a road rage altercation.
