Mother Killed, Child Injured in Road Rage Shooting in Hardin County, Tennessee

Maryville, TN — A mother was killed and her child injured in a road rage shooting on Sunday afternoon in Hardin County, Tennessee. Authorities say the incident occurred just after 4 p.m. near Emmaus Way, close to U.S. Route 64 in Savannah.

The victim, 24-year-old Zoe Johnson, was shot in the area and rushed to Hardin Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The child, whose age and condition have not been disclosed, was also injured in the shooting.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), 42-year-old Clint Newton is responsible for the shooting. Authorities obtained a warrant for his arrest, and Newton was charged with second-degree murder. He is currently being held in the Hardin County Jail without bond.

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Department, along with the TBI, is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. While the exact motive remains unclear, law enforcement officials believe the incident stemmed from a road rage altercation.

“This is an extremely tragic and senseless event,” said Hardin County Sheriff, John Smith. “Our investigators are working diligently to uncover the details and provide justice for the victim and her family.”

Neighbors in the area expressed shock and sadness over the incident. “It’s so hard to believe something like this could happen here,” said one local resident. “It’s just a reminder of how quickly things can escalate on the road.”

Road rage incidents have become a growing concern across the nation, with many experts warning about the dangers of aggressive driving and the potential for violence. Authorities continue to urge drivers to remain calm and avoid confrontational behavior while on the road.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

The community has rallied in support of the victim’s family, with many offering condolences and raising awareness about the dangers of road rage.
