Maryville, TN — Metro Nashville police are investigating a death that occurred Sunday evening after a body was discovered on an eastbound exit ramp of Interstate 40 in North Nashville.
The call came in to Metro Nashville dispatch just after 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, reporting an individual lying face down at the I-40 East exit ramp near Jefferson Street. When officers arrived, they confirmed that the person was deceased. At this time, the identity of the individual has not been released, and the circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) issued an alert shortly after 7:30 p.m., stating that Exit 207 — the Jefferson Street off-ramp — was closed due to “police activity.” The closure affected traffic on the busy stretch of I-40 East, and TDOT advised drivers to seek alternate routes.
The exit ramp remained closed for several hours while police processed the scene. By 10:30 p.m., TDOT’s online traffic map indicated that the area had been cleared and the ramp was reopened to traffic. The right shoulder of I-40 East was also reopened at that time.
As of now, no further details about the incident have been made available by authorities. The Metro Nashville Police Department is continuing to investigate the cause of death and whether foul play was involved.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Metro Nashville Police Department.
