Vandalism Strikes Lakeshore Park Again, Officials Concerned

Maryville, Tenn. — Lakeshore Park officials are grappling with the aftermath of a second incident of vandalism that has left a once-beautiful grassy area damaged. The park’s new lawn, located in what was formerly a ballpark, is now scarred with deep tire tracks and mud, sparking frustration among visitors and park authorities alike.

Julieanne Foy, the executive director of the Lakeshore Park Conservancy, expressed her disappointment and anger over the damage. “We were just extremely disappointed and angry that this again had happened in the park,” Foy said.

Sharon Wright, a regular park visitor, shared her disapproval, calling the incident “not right.” “A beautiful place like this and someone is going to mess it up. It’s not right,” Wright remarked.

This marks the second time in recent months that vandals have driven vehicles onto the park’s grassy area. The first incident occurred in December, and Knoxville police were able to identify a juvenile suspect. However, park officials chose not to pursue charges, instead opting to resolve the matter directly with the suspect’s family.

Despite the damage, Foy assured the public that security measures are in place to protect the park. “We have license plate readers at both entrances to the park that have really been beneficial in apprehending individuals who have been breaking into vehicles and other damages in the park,” she said. Additionally, security cameras have been installed in newly renovated sections of the park.

However, despite these precautions, the latest act of vandalism has yet to be solved. Knoxville Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit is currently assisting in the investigation, but no suspects have been identified as of yet.

Foy reaffirmed that park officials take the safety and upkeep of the park very seriously and are exploring further security enhancements to prevent similar incidents in the future. The community’s ongoing support is crucial as the park works to address these acts of vandalism and maintain the beauty of the space for all visitors.
