Maryville, TN— The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is examining the circumstances surrounding a police-involved shooting that led to the death of a man in Chattanooga early Tuesday morning.
According to TBI, the incident unfolded just after midnight when deputies from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on a motorcycle in the 7300 block of McCutcheon Road. While speaking with the motorcyclist, the individual allegedly produced a firearm, prompting the deputies to open fire.
The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released pending family notification, was transported to a local hospital. He was later pronounced dead from injuries sustained during the shooting.
As part of its standard protocol in such cases, the TBI has launched an investigation into the shooting. The agency has not yet disclosed further details regarding the exact sequence of events or the reasons behind the deputies’ decision to use deadly force.
Authorities have asked the public to remain patient as the investigation continues. The incident has raised questions about the interaction between law enforcement and individuals during traffic stops, a situation that is now under review by the TBI.
No officers were reported injured in the incident, and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office has agreed to cooperate fully with the investigation.
