ALCOA, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has announced that a section of Louisville Road (State Route 334) in Alcoa will be closed for several days starting Thursday, May 8, 2025, as part of a project to install a new pedestrian bridge.

The closure will impact traffic between Proffitt Springs Road and Alcoa Highway, and is expected to last until Saturday, May 17, 2025. During this time, drivers should expect detours and plan alternate routes.

For northbound drivers, traffic will be rerouted onto West Hunt Road, leading to Alcoa Highway and Pellissippi Parkway. From there, motorists will be directed to the Topside Road exit. Southbound traffic will be redirected via Proffitt Springs Road to Highway 321.

The closure is part of the ongoing Eagle Greenway Project, which aims to improve pedestrian access by constructing a pedestrian bridge over the CSX railroad tracks near Louisville Road and Liberty Street. The new bridge is expected to enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists in the area.

In a statement posted to social media, the city of Alcoa expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the closure and assured residents that TDOT is working diligently to complete the project as quickly as possible. “We apologize for this inconvenience and are working diligently with TDOT to ensure the project is completed as quickly as possible,” the city said.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to stay informed about the closure and follow the posted detour signs to avoid delays.

For further updates, residents are encouraged to monitor local news outlets and the Alcoa city government’s social media channels.
