KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Knoxville man has pleaded guilty to multiple charges stemming from a deadly shooting that took place last year on Gilbert Lane in South Knoxville.

On Friday, 40-year-old Latawyne Osborne admitted to one count of first-degree murder, three counts of attempted first-degree murder, and one count of aggravated sexual battery. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to a spokesperson from the Knox County District Attorney’s Office.

The incident in April 2024 resulted in the death of 22-year-old Danishka Sibaja Mejia and left three others injured, including Osborne himself.

Authorities described the crime as particularly heinous, noting that the day before the shooting, Mejia had reported a sexual assault and identified Osborne as the perpetrator. This report ultimately led to Osborne being charged with aggravated sexual battery as part of the case.

In addition to Osborne, three other individuals were indicted in connection with the shooting. Edward Wilson and Marquis Ellis face multiple charges, including first-degree murder. Angela Greenburg, who is Osborne’s mother, was indicted on charges of tampering with evidence and accessory after the fact.

The investigation and subsequent guilty pleas mark a significant development in a case that has drawn attention for its violent and disturbing nature.
