SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. — A Knoxville man was killed early Monday morning in a crash on the 407 exit of Interstate 40, according to the Sevierville Police Department.
Charles Cox, 32, was driving a Toyota Tacoma around 2 a.m. when he reportedly veered onto the shoulder of the interstate and collided with a parked tractor-trailer. Authorities believe Cox lost control of his vehicle, leading to the deadly crash.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Cox was pronounced dead at the location. The driver of the tractor-trailer, who was parked at the time of the crash, was not injured.
The Sevierville Police Department shut down several eastbound lanes of the interstate for several hours while they investigated the incident. The lanes remained closed until approximately 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the cause of the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of staying alert on the road, particularly during late-night or early-morning hours.
The Sevierville Police Department is asking anyone with additional information to come forward as they continue their investigation.
