IRS Extends Tax Relief for Tennessee Residents and Businesses Affected by Severe Storms and Flooding

Maryville, Tenn. — The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced a significant extension of tax relief for Tennessee residents and businesses affected by the devastating storms, tornadoes, and flooding that began in early April. The extension, which applies to the entire state, provides taxpayers with more time to file federal tax returns and make tax payments.

Under the new relief measures, Tennessee taxpayers now have until November 3, 2025, to file their individual and business tax returns, as well as to make any necessary tax payments. The IRS is offering this relief to individuals and businesses located in any area designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“The IRS is offering relief to any area designated by FEMA,” the agency stated in a recent press release. “This means that individuals and households that reside or have a business in Tennessee’s 95 counties qualify for tax relief.”

The extension impacts all 95 counties in Tennessee, offering significant financial relief to those who have been directly affected by the severe weather. For the most up-to-date list of eligible localities, the IRS advises taxpayers to visit the Tax Relief in Disaster Situations page on IRS.gov.

This relief comes as a much-needed measure for residents and business owners still recovering from the widespread damage caused by the storms and flooding. It also provides an opportunity for individuals and businesses to focus on rebuilding without the added pressure of impending tax deadlines.

The IRS continues to monitor the situation and will provide further updates as necessary.
