BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — A fatal crash involving a single vehicle on Pellissippi Parkway near the off ramp of Alcoa Highway caused significant traffic disruptions Tuesday morning.
According to the Alcoa Police Department, the crash occurred around 9:50 a.m. Emergency responders, including officers and firefighters, quickly arrived at the scene. Due to the severity of the incident, all lanes of Pellissippi Parkway were temporarily closed while crews worked to investigate and clear the wreckage.
A spokesperson from the Alcoa Police confirmed to local media outlet 6 News that at least one person died as a result of the crash.
Traffic was rerouted to Alcoa Highway during the closure, causing delays for commuters in the area. By 11:45 a.m., Mark Nagi with the Tennessee Department of Transportation announced that all lanes of Pellissippi Parkway had reopened to traffic.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
