HAMILTON COUNTY, TN— A 56-year-old man was arrested Friday after allegedly firing shots at a family who was sledding in their neighborhood. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 6300 block of Stoney River Drive following reports of a man shooting at a family.

Benjamin Cook, of East Tennessee, faces six counts of aggravated assault after the incident, which occurred as the family, including two parents and four children, were sledding down a hill in the area. The family had gathered in the neighborhood for a winter outing when the shots were fired.

According to the preliminary investigation, the family was sledding on a hill near Cook’s residence when the altercation occurred. It remains unclear what prompted Cook to allegedly open fire, and authorities are continuing to investigate the situation.

Deputies quickly arrived on the scene and arrested Cook without incident. Fortunately, no one in the family was injured during the encounter.

The case is ongoing, and investigators are working to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting. Cook is currently facing charges of aggravated assault, and further details may emerge as the investigation progresses.

Authorities urge anyone with additional information to come forward as they work to gather all the facts surrounding the incident.
