Knoxville, TN – A dog was fatally electrocuted in a Walmart parking lot Monday morning after coming into contact with a puddle near a faulty electrical terminal. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. at the Walmart on Clinton Highway.
According to the Knoxville Police Department (KPD), officers were called to the scene after a woman reported witnessing the dog walking through a puddle, followed by a loud yelp. The woman and several others nearby immediately attempted to resuscitate the dog, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
The KPD confirmed that the Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB) is working alongside Walmart maintenance staff to identify the source of the electrical malfunction and address the situation to prevent future incidents. In addition, the Young-Williams Animal Center responded to the scene to assist with the situation.
At this time, additional details about the incident, including the cause of the electrical issue, have not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
