Sevierville, Tenn. – An armed man was arrested Wednesday afternoon outside of a local daycare center, according to the Sevierville Police Department (SPD). The incident occurred at the Hilltop Child Development Center, located on Fox Meadows Boulevard.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., SPD responded to a 911 call reporting a man in the daycare’s parking lot carrying a firearm. Officers arrived on the scene shortly thereafter and located the suspect near the front door of the facility. Authorities confirmed the man was in possession of a gun, but the situation was brought under control without any shots being fired or injuries reported.
SPD spokesman Bob Stahlke stated that the man was taken into custody without incident. However, further details regarding the suspect’s identity have not been released at this time.
The daycare was not evacuated, and the children and staff members were unharmed. Authorities have assured the public that no immediate threat was posed to those at the facility during the encounter.
The Sevierville Police Department is continuing its investigation, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
