HUNTINGDON, Tenn. – A somber tribute was paid to Chance Carlton, a lineman with the Carroll County Electric Department, who tragically lost his life during a severe weather outbreak in early April. The 32-year-old’s funeral service took place on April 7 at Chase Funeral Home in Huntingdon, with family, friends, coworkers, and members of the West Tennessee community gathering to honor his life and sacrifice.
Carlton died when the truck he was driving left the road and overturned into a creek while he was working to restore power during the storm. His passing has left a deep void in the community, and several electric departments from across West Tennessee came together to pay their respects. Linemen from Benton County Electric System, Milan Public Utility Authority, Paris Board of Public Utility Authority, Covington Electric Department, and Weakley County Electric System stood in solidarity, lining the streets with their bucket trucks raised as a symbol of respect for their fallen colleague.
The funeral procession, which was led by Carroll County Electric Department trucks, passed through the streets with a solemn display of support. Following behind were members of the Tennessee Highway Patrol and additional trucks from the Carroll County Electric Department. Utility workers stood shoulder to shoulder along the street, many of whom had worked alongside Carlton or had been touched by his dedication to his job and community.
The service was also attended by members of the West Tennessee community, who gathered in support of Carlton’s family and friends. Many residents expressed their gratitude for the work Carlton had done throughout his career and offered condolences to his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
Carlton’s death is a reminder of the inherent dangers faced by utility workers, who often work in hazardous conditions to restore essential services to their communities. His passing has left a lasting impact on the region, and the outpouring of support from his peers and the broader community highlights the strong bonds within the utility worker network and the respect they have for one another.
As the community mourns his loss, they also celebrate the life of a dedicated professional who gave his all in service to others.
