Knoxville, Tenn. — Authorities are investigating a shooting incident that occurred Tuesday afternoon at the Cassell Ridge Apartments, where an 8-year-old girl was struck by gunfire. According to the Knoxville Police Department (KPD), the shooting took place around 5 p.m. when the young girl was hit while in the vicinity of the complex.
The girl, who sustained injuries deemed non-life-threatening, was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment. Police did not release her identity or further details on her condition.
KPD officers quickly responded to the scene and detained multiple individuals, including a 14-year-old boy. Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting was the result of an ongoing conflict, with the suspect allegedly firing at a vehicle containing several people.
The 14-year-old, who has not been identified due to his juvenile status, was charged with multiple offenses, including attempted first-degree murder, felony child abuse, and weapon-related charges.
