Maryville, TN — A former Sevier County golf coach has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to multiple counts of statutory rape involving a former student. Jennifer Paige Blanchard, 38, who worked as a coach at Northview Academy in Kodak, was arrested in November 2023 following an investigation into allegations that she sexually assaulted a student in 2017.
Blanchard’s arrest came after the victim, now an adult, came forward with accusations that the abuse took place while Blanchard was employed at the school. According to law enforcement, the victim reported the incidents years after they occurred, prompting a thorough investigation.
In early December, Blanchard entered a guilty plea to three counts of statutory rape. Under the terms of her sentencing, she was ordered to serve six years on probation. Additionally, Blanchard will remain on the Tennessee sex offender registry for the duration of her probation, a condition that will be in effect for the entire six years.
As part of the sentence, Blanchard is permanently banned from working in any capacity involving children, including teaching or coaching. The ban ensures that she will not be allowed to return to any educational or athletic roles involving minors.
After completing her probation, Blanchard may be eligible to apply for judicial diversion, which could lead to the expungement of her criminal record. However, judicial diversion is not automatic, and Blanchard will have to meet specific conditions set by the court.
The case has raised concerns among parents and residents in the community, particularly regarding the trust placed in educators and coaches. The Sevier County School District has not commented on the case but has reiterated its commitment to student safety and ensuring a secure environment for all students.
Blanchard’s conviction serves as a reminder of the critical need for accountability and oversight in educational settings, particularly when individuals in positions of authority are entrusted with the welfare of students.
